Mish Delish Good Food Blog

I’m a professional food stylist and currently prepping my own series of cookbooks and a cooking show. In my food catering business, Mishka La Mushka, I catered private and corporate functions and events big and small, designed food in hat boxes for the Spring Racing Carnival and created too many themed kids birthday parties to mention. But now I love food styling and sharing my fun food ideas with mums wanting to create restaurant-quality meals at home, for kids and family. So let’s get cooking!

Coconut & Oat Cookies {gf}

So with school back this week, some lunchbox inspo was definitely on the cards. These perfectly crunchy cookies are a combo of a coconut macaroon and an Anzac and they are they are the bomb! Thanks for the photo Guy Lavoipierre 😉

Date & Oat Biscuit Recipe

These biscuits are a great lunch box treat and perfect for kids that don’t like visible dried fruit. The date puree combined with a little maple syrup naturally sweeten these delicious biscuits so with no processed sugar added, they are healthy too.

Chocolate Texas Sheet Cake Recipe

This extremely moist and delicious chocolate cake recipe came to me courtesy of a very good friend’s mum. I’ve never really been a big chocolate cake fan, mainly because I’ve found them either way to dense and rich or dry and boring. This delightful cake is neither of these things…

Canéles Recipe

Having just come back from a very quick trip to France and with the Tour, Napoleon at the NGV and the French issue of Gourmet Traveller, I was inspired to get my French on in the kitchen. One of the many highlights of my visit was starting each day with a sweet treat from…

Pumpkin & Polenta Bread Recipe

Whenever I go out for breakfast and there is corn bread on the menu, I order it. I particularly love the borderline savoury and sweet factor and it just goes so well with poached eggs and avocado. I’ve actually never made corn bread before, but, I had some leftover mashed…

Semolina & Custard Slice Recipe

Melbourne’s change in weather and season has ignited my comfort food cravings. This would have to be the easiest baked custard I’ve ever made and I think the yummiest too. Serve it warm, fresh from the oven or slice it up cold for school lunches.

Vegetable Spelt Pie Recipe

This is what I make when I’m low on supplies and in need of a healthy, low maintenance dinner. In this case I had a sweet potato, a couple of carrots, some beans and zucchini on hand, plus a few other pantry basics. A little can go a long way,…

Figgy Frangipane Tart Recipe

Ain’t this just the perfect Autumn dessert? Do yourself a favour (if you’re Melbourne based) and get your hands on some Paterson’s puff available from Veg Out & Gasworks markets and Windsor Deli as the pastry makes this dessert.

Gingerbread Muffin Recipe

It’s that time of year again, and my days are full. So full, that I haven’t had much time to cook, let alone post recipes. Starting to think about Christmas treats to give to visitors, I whipped up these muffins this morning. You’ll most likely have all the ingredients on…

Healthy nut-free muesli bars

I’m always quite conscientious on the first day back to school. You’ll find me polishing shoes, poaching chicken for sandwiches and making muesli bars. Unfortunately, as the school term progresses, exciting lunch boxes and tidy uniforms tend to wane a little, as my focus becomes solely dedicated to just getting…

Healthy Bran Muffins

This is a sentimental post for me. My grandmother Merle moved into a old folks home not so long ago as it was getting harder for her to manage on her own. She has always been fiercely independent so I can only imagine just how hard it is for her,…

Lemon Meringue Cupcakes

Monday 15 August is Cupcake Day, a fantastic RSPCA fundraising initiative. If you haven’t heard about it, read here for more information. I thought I’d provide a little inspiration for those thinking of taking part. These cupcakes are a variation on Martha Stewart’s recipe, and oozing with freshly made lemon…

Date & Walnut Scones

I picked up some locally grown organic walnuts at the market last week, they taste so much better fresh  from the shell. Whilst cracking them open, I decided to bake some scones, using the walnuts and some dates for some extra sweetness. I don’t add much sugar to my scones…

Almond Kifli

Yet another delightful recipe from the Monday Morning Cooking Club cookbook. These biscuits are perfect accompaniment to coffee and have a beautiful crumbly texture that just melts in your mouth.

Cinnamon Apple Pie

Another, winner of a recipe from The Monday Morning Cooking Club cookbook. This Apple Pie is a beautiful dessert. More like a cake than a pie, it is lighter than more traditional versions. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Gingerbread Bunnies & Eggs

This Easter, I wanted to revisit a post I did 2 years ago and make these super cute gingerbread bunnies and eggs again. Like most kids, mine don’t have a choc-ometer and will eat it until they are rolling around on the floor moaning with sore tummies. These are a nice…

Chocolate & Macadamia Cookies

I’d really like to be able to say that these are healthy, obviously I can’t. Everyone deserves a little treat from time to time though and these cookies are damn fine with a cup of tea or a glass of milk. My kids say that they’re best eaten fresh out…

Scrumptious Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

This recipe comes from Bake – Essential Companion by Alison Thompson an expert baker and pastry chef. This great book covers off all the fundamentals of baking including yeast breads, pastry, brioches and croissants, biscuits and slices, muffins and scones, gluten-free and more. This is a book for a passionate…

Flourless Almond Cake

This post is a tribute to my friends Kat and Al, from the Windsor Deli. They make this incredibly moreish cake that we cannot get enough of. So, I’ve been working on recreating the cake myself at home. And after significant trial and error, I think I’m almost there. Kat?

White Chocolate and Rosemary Nougat

You probably wouldn’t be surprised to learn that I’m right into Christmas baking. I love to have little treats on hand to give away as gifts or serve to visitors. For those of you Sydneysiders, that have been to Seans Panoroma in Bondi and tried this outstanding nougat, you’ll know…

Meat & Vegetable Pastie Recipe

These take me back to my childhood, mum often used to make pasties for Saturday lunch. With 5 kids hungry from sport commitments, not to mention the countless number of friends that came over on the weekends, these must have been a saviour for mum. They take no time at…

Cookie Cutter Biscuit Recipe

I’ve had a few peeps enquire about a good plain biscuit dough that works well and holds its shape, which is important when using cookie cutters. This is a great one to involve kids with, it’s easy to make, bake and then create! Ruby and her special friend Lily, had…

Masterchef Croquembouche (retox).

I’ve always wanted to make a croquembouche, even long before Masterchef put them back on the culinary radar. Traditionally, a croquembouche is served at weddings, baptisms, and first communions. So when we were recently invited to a friend’s son’s christening, I jumped at the chance and enthusiastically offered my services.…

Cinnamon Treacle Teddybear Biscuits

Admittedly, I went to make gingerbread and due to missing ingredients created these yummy teddy bear biscuits. Bo and I had so much fun making these, the dough is really kid friendly. We piped white chocolate eyes and buttons, but any decoration will do. As well as being dunked in…

Beetroot & Dark Chocolate Muffin Recipe

Thank you Stephanie Alexander for introducing me to the combination of beetroot and dark chocolate, they’re a match made in heaven. The muffins have kept fresh in a air-tight container, and have been a great addition to my daughters lunchbox each day. Dark chocolate and beetroot muffins (recipe adapted from…

Christmas | Mince Tart Recipe

I just whipped up 4 dozen of these babies for gifts and just general piggishness. You can cheat and use bought fruit mince and add some grated apple, but if you make my special concoction you won’t look back. It’s as easy as pie! Fruit Mince Tarts Makes approx. 4…

Muesli Munchie Recipe

Felt like baking with the girls today. These cookies aren’t entirely guilt free but they don’t have any sugar apart from a little golden syrup. These are going to be a great lunchbox snack this week. Sultanas would be great to add, but I’ve got one who likes them and…

Lemon Meringue Tart Recipe

This was a special request from my 4 year old Ruby. She helped me pipe out the stars but she really was more interested in eating the meringue mixture. Typical! I make my tart with a lemon curd because I can’t stand what cornflour does to the texture of the…

Berry nice | Meringue Recipe

When I have leftover egg whites I just can’t help myself, I have to make meringues. These weren’t made for any special occasion, just because.   I know berries are really expensive at the moment and aren’t really at their best. Try them with lemon curd and fresh passionfruit pulp…
