Mish Delish Good Food Blog

I’m a professional food stylist and currently prepping my own series of cookbooks and a cooking show. In my food catering business, Mishka La Mushka, I catered private and corporate functions and events big and small, designed food in hat boxes for the Spring Racing Carnival and created too many themed kids birthday parties to mention. But now I love food styling and sharing my fun food ideas with mums wanting to create restaurant-quality meals at home, for kids and family. So let’s get cooking!

I'm Mish Lilley, a kitchen cook, food stylist and chef prepping a series of cookbooks, a cooking show and this blog. This blog is dedicated to my love of good food styling and good food. Italian Braised Chicken with Capers Recipe

This is an update of a very traditional Italian braise I’ve been doing for years and is a particular Winter family favourite. Think Cacciatore but with capers instead of olives. No surprises that when preparing this I had capers on hand and no olives, but it really works and it’s easy…

Thai Salmon Salad Recipe

I was given some Superior Gold salmon to try last week and it’s seriously good. There are many varieties in the new range one of which was thick cut hot smoked salmon, which was perfect in this super tasty protein packed salad.

Fresh Broad Bean Falafel Recipe

Once you’ve had freshly made falafel, it’s hard to turn back. Besides, it’s a great way to utilise delicious broad beans which are in abundance at the moment. You’ll need to soak the chickpeas overnight, so make sure you begin this recipe a day ahead.

Tuna Tartare Recipe

This a very special recipe, taken from Olimpia Bortolotto of Cecconi’s Flinders Lane new cookbook – La Tavola Della Famiglia. Tuna is a fish IMHO (in my humble opinion),  that is best served raw. This fresh, spicy and delicious combination is a lighter nod to traditional tartare and would make…

Spaghetti Cake Recipe

This a great way to use up leftover spaghetti, as somehow I always manage to cook too much. Use my recipe as a guide, you can use any type of flavourings you want, leftover spaghetti coated in bolognese sauce works a treat too.

Silverbeet, Haloumi & Mint Gozleme Recipe

I served this tasty gozleme as a pre-quel to our slow roasted lamb for Easter lunch. I must admit, I get a warm fuzzy feeling watching kids chow down on super greens like silverbeet, I can’t help but feel that I’ve kicked some serious parenting goals. Speaking of goals, I’m…

Healthy Salmon Fishcake Recipe

The recently opened Kaya Health Club  in Prahran have challenged me to experience their Mind and Body Health Club – 21 times in 30 days. Those that know me, know that I’m a big pilates fan, so what’s great about this health club is that it specialises in authentic yoga and Group Reformer Pilates…

Greek Chicken Meatball Soup Recipe

I’ve been meaning to post this recipe for a while now and with winter looking like it’s going to hang around for as long as possible, this nourishing soup is sure to chase the blues away. You really need to make your own stock for this one, it doesn’t take…

Garlicky Chickpeas and Spinach Recipe

Exciting times in the Mish Delish hood. 3 quick overseas trips in quick succession, the renovation of our new house is nearing completion, and a brand spanking new Mish Delish website is well underway. This healthy, delicious and nutritious feel good recipe takes like a soupy hummus and is just the…

Beetroot Cured Gravadlax Recipe

As a lover of Swedish design and stationery, I’m featuring the gorgeous kikki.K Kitchen range in this blog post. And, I thought it was only fitting to provide a Swedish inspired recipe to go with it. It’s nice to have a home for all the inspiring recipe ideas that I’ve ripped out from…

Vegetable & Barley Soup Recipe

I did a readers choice callout on Facebook, and it seems a good vegetable & barley soup recipe is needed. So here it is. We can’t get enough of tasty hearty soups in Melbourne, particularly when the weather takes a turn for the worst. Remember, soup is all about the…

Savoury Bread Tartlets Recipe

School holidays are well under way and I don’t know about your kids, but mine seem to be hungrier than usual. I’ve been experimenting with healthy pastry free quiches for lunch, there are so many fillings you could do, but these are our current faves.

Fresh Tomato Soup Recipe

I’m cooking a lot of vegetarian dishes at the moment. It’s not really a conscious thing, it’s just that there is still so much gorgeous summery produce at the markets and I want to make the most of it while it lasts. This is yummy with my Spelt Pesto Scrolls…

Beetroot & Zucchini Burger Recipe

I’ve just returned from a blissful month in the Mornington Peninsula over indulging in wine, food and laughter, such wonderful things to help me  tackle 2012. January was bio dynamic blueberries, honesty system organic avocados, slow cooked eggplant and greek yoghurt dip, beetroot and zucchini burgers, chardonnay, blueberry cheesecake ice-cream,…

Crispy Fish Brioche Rolls

The magical combination of seafood and mayonnaise encased in a warm buttery brioche roll was inspired by the amazing ‘New England Lobster Roll’ at Golden Fields in Melbourne’s St Kilda. Whilst I’d quite happily snack on a lobster roll every night of the week, I’ve come up with a slightly…

Chicken & Sweetcorn Soup

Everyone one has their own way of cooking chicken and sweet corn soup. Mine is more about using fresh ingredients rather than bought chicken stock or creamed corn and not surprisingly, you can really taste the difference.

Broccoli Avgolemono

Everyone in our house has been sick at some point this week. I got talking to a lovely lady at Sweet Greek at the Prahran Market and she prescribed some of her Greek chicken and lemon soup traditionally called Avgolemono, it was delicious and so was her freshly baked Galaktoboureko…

Pork & Chilli Wonton Soup

This was my first attempt of making Chinese style dumplings, which explains why they look like tortellini!  I made a double batch so that we could try them different ways and freeze the rest. We steamed them and had our very own yum-cha session and then made a big pot…

Pumpkin, Sage & Bacon Soup

The onset of the colder weather makes me want to get out the stockpot again and make some soup. I picked up some organic pumpkin from a farm I go in the Mornington Peninsula and it was the sweetest, brightest orange pumpkin, just gagging to be made into soup. The…

Slow Roasted Lamb Souvlaki

This fresh take on the fast food “souva” is a winner. The lamb can go in the oven at lunchtime and left to slowly and gently cook. By the time dinner comes around, only a small amount of prep is required to churn out a hearty and satisfying meal. …

Beetroot Ravioli (Casunziei)

Summer just ain’t summer without beetroot, one of my favourite ingredients. I cook with it loads and love its versatility in both sweet and savoury dishes. Beetroot and dark chocolate are a match made in heaven and its hard to go past roasted beetroot in a salad or dip. It’s…

Margherita Pizza with Zucchini Flowers

Those of us growing zucchinis in kitchen gardens will soon be picking them in abundance and forever trying to think of new and innovative ways to cook with them. Unfortunately, my homegrown zucchini are still a little way from harvest, but they are nicely propagated and coming along well. With…

Meat & Vegetable Pastie Recipe

These take me back to my childhood, mum often used to make pasties for Saturday lunch. With 5 kids hungry from sport commitments, not to mention the countless number of friends that came over on the weekends, these must have been a saviour for mum. They take no time at…

Eggplant Papoutsakia Recipe

I have already mentioned how much we love Greek food in our house, so it may not come as a surprise to you that Tessa Kiros’ latest book – Food From Many Greek Kitchens, is a new favourite. The recipes are very traditional and authentic – straight from a Yia Yia’s…

The Crispiest Corn Fritter Recipe

Now, isn’t this just the perfect light dinner or brunch? Everybody loves these in my house. Topped with freshly made guacamole, what’s not to like?  Guacamole 1 Hass avocado 1/4 cup Cherry tomatoes, roughly chopped 1 Garlic clove, finely crushed 1 Lime, juiced   Corn fritters 2 Corn cobs, husks…

Delicious | Prawn & Corn Soup Recipe

I’ve been desperately trying to come up with an appealing name for this soup because I have to admit the term “chowder” doesn’t exactly whet my appetite. This soup is, however, essentially a chowder that gets its creaminess from corn and olive oil rather than cream. Got to love that.…

Jerusalem artichoke soup recipe

Minestrone Soup Recipe

Minestrone can be really dull but I’ve turned it up a notch and tried something new. I added some chopped up ham bones for extra flavour and omitted the green veges but instead add them every time I reheat the soup. Why? you might ask. Well, they only take a…

Scrummy Sausage Roll Recipe

It’s been a long time between kids party’s for some reason and Ruby had a hankering for some sausage rolls. Since we’ve already made Anzac biscuits today, it seems fairly fitting to stick with the Aussie theme anyway. Sausage rolls You’ll need: 250g pork mince 250g sausage mince 1 small…
