Black Pepper Steak
This dish is on regular rotation and a hands down family favourite. The sauce is total umami and served with some fresh greens, a super quick and healthy dinner option too.
Black Pepper Steak
Serves 4
INGREDIENTS
Sauce
1 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
1 tbs good quality oyster sauce
1 tbs light soy sauce
4 pieces of eye fillet steak
Greens
Splash of olive oil
1 bunch gai lan (Chinese broccoli) or 2 bunches broccolini
splash of light soy
splash of Chinese cooking wine or dry sherry
sprinkle of shichimi togarashi (optional)
Mix together all the sauce ingredients in a small bowl and set aside.
Drizzle the steak with a little olive oil and heat a cast iron pan to a high heat.
Sear the steak on both sides until cooked to liking (depending on he thickness of your steak about 3 mins per side for medium-rare).
Meanwhile, place the olive oil and gai lan into a non stick frypan and gently steam with lid on. Take off lid and and soy and cooking wine. This will only take a few minutes. Sprinkle with togarashi and set aside.
When the steak is cooked to your liking, brush it liberally with the black pepper sauce and serve.
